English Communication for IT Students
This course will be a skills-based course within the framework of IT with an emphasis on problem resolution and communication.
Course Objectives:
· To develop essential skills in the communication of IT concepts and issues.
· To teach and practice language skills necessary for clear communication between IT technical staff, business users, and management.
This course will focus on three components:
Speaking:
· To develop the ability to participate in the exchange of information and opinions within the context of IT.
· To build skills to explain computing functions and features as well as providing advice on IT issues.
· To develop skills and strategies for coping with not understanding and not being understood.
Listening:
· To develop the skill of listening for main points in descriptions, explanations and arguments.
· To develop the ability to derive and understand specific information as presented by both native and non-native English speakers.
Writing:
· To develop the ability to write clear instructions, descriptions, and explanations relating to computing and IT.
Materials will include authentic documents and case studies from common situations encountered in the IT profession.
