Two PostDocs on Robust Evaluation of Cognitive Capabilities and Generality in AI, University of Cambridge

The Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (CFI) invites applications for two Postdoctoral Research Associates to work on the RECOG-AI project. RECOG-AI is a two-year DARPA-funded project on the Robust Evaluation of Cognitive Capabilities and Generality in Artificial Intelligence. The main objective of the project is to improve AI evaluation by providing a framework and benchmarks for measuring the capabilities of AI systems. The work will be drawing from multiple disciplines, but primarily from computer science, and animal and human psychology. The appointments will be for 21 months in the first instance, and are based in Cambridge, UK. There are two postdoctoral positions available.

Candidates should have (or be about to achieve) a PhD in a relevant field and should provide strong evidence of potential for research and publication at the highest level, as well as strong interest in engagement with the cognitive sciences. The appointee will also play an important role in the project's interdisciplinary activities, including discussion groups and workshops. The following backgrounds and experiences will be an advantage, either independently or in combination: Psychology/Cognitive Science/Animal Behaviour, Expertise in AI, and particularly in areas of machine learning such as (deep) reinforcement learning, multimodal models, causal models, etc. and coding/Game Development and experience with Unity. This is a highly interdisciplinary project, and we are seeking a combination of these skills in the team. However, we do not expect any given candidate to have experience in all fields.
