Culture and inequality in international comparison

The description and explanation of social inequalities is a core task of sociology. In this seminar, we will explore classical and recent contributions of cultural sociology to these questions. We will examine how social inequalities interact with cultural processes, for example, through status distinctions and boundary making between social groups, or practices of classification and evaluation. We will read theoretical and empirical (mostly qualitative) contributions on this topic, taking into account international comparisons and transnational entanglements.
