Introduction to Islamic Art and Archaeology
Topics and methods from the field of Islamic Art and Archaeology are introduced and discussed using examples from a variety of periods and materials (objects of art, buildings, illustrated manuscripts). To a limited extent, secondary literature and tools for research are introduced. Classwork consists first and foremost of the discussion of works and related literature; preparatory reading for each session is obligatory. Instead of a written exam, alternative forms of written classwork can be used for obtaining full credits.
