Four open (PhD and postdoctoral) positions for Cognition, Perception, and Behaviour in Urban Environments at the Singapore-ETH Centre

The project Cognition, Perception, and Behaviour in Urban Environments, led by Prof. Dr. Christoph Hoelscher (ETH Zürich and Singapore-ETH Centre), will employ a variety of technologies in order to measure physiological and behavioural responses to real and virtual environments. Pre-occupancy evaluation with human participants will lead towards evidence-based design interventions for ongoing building projects in Singapore. At the same time, the comparison of pre- and post-occupancy evaluations at these sites (and their virtual counterparts) will provide unprecedented opportunities for research in cognitive science. The core project team will consist of 5 positions, including 2 Post-doctoral researchers, 2 or 3 PhD students and design support. Successful applicants will fulfill one of these roles in the project. As the thematic roles in the project can be filled at either doctoral student or postdoctoral level, we advertise a total of 8 positions for this inter-disciplinary team. Positions are available for candidates from a range of disciplines, including Cognitive Science, Psychology, Architecture, Design, Computer Science, Geoinformatics/GIS and related fields. The Singapore-ETH Centre (SEC) is a joint initiative between the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) and Singapore’s National Research Foundation. The Future Cities Laboratory (FCL) was first established for this initiative in 2010 in order to address the challenges associated with sustainable urbanization. In addition to ecological, architectural, and transportation aspects of urban development, the second phase of FCL will investigate the relationship between the built environment and real human behavior.
