PLEASE READ: Term paper information

Dear term paper writers,

Now that (hopefully) most of you have finished most of your written exams, I've compiled, below, some formal information about the term paper.

Term paper information:

1) The deadline for the term paper is 5pm on Friday 29 March. I will need to have received both the WORD and PDF documents of your term paper, by email, by this date and time. I will also need to receive an entirely identical hard copy, sent to my University address, which you can find here. Because both the Friday and the Monday are public holidays, you can send me the hard copy either on the Saturday or the Tuesday.

2) You will need to include the cover sheet, which you will find the 'term paper' folder towards the top of the main VC page, as well as the statement of integrity of use of A.I. (if you choose to use A.I.). If you plan to do this, I'd ask you to discuss it with me first. You can find the Institute's (excellent) statements on the use of A.I. on these pages. You are, of course, under absolutely no obligation to use A.I.; but if you choose to do, you'll have to fill out the statement specifically on A.I. use.

3) You can also find the PDF of my Powerpoint presentation on term paper writing in the term paper folder, which I hope will be useful. As a rule of thumb (courtesy of my excellent colleague over in Amerikanistik, Dr Nicole Konopka), it's a good idea to aim for as many secondary texts -- both books by scholars and theoretical texts -- as there are pages in your term paper. For a term paper of this length, this amounts to 10-12 theoretical and secondary texts. But this is only a rule of thumb, and not an exact science.

4) If you find yourself taken ill, and so incapacitated, in the two or so week before the deadline, I'm willing to consider some form of extension: for this, you'll need to send me a doctor's note.

5) I hope to compile a teaching feedback survey, and send you the link, by the end of this week.

If you have any further questions, please ask.

Best wishes,

Robert Craig
