Abstract:

Due to legal requirements like the GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act, customers and users gain more control over their personal data that is collected and processed by institutes and companies.
This not only requires data deletion, but also ensuring that sensitive information can no longer be reconstructed from statistics or models utilising this data.
Thus, we need machine learning models to be able to forget about certain data points on demand, which is generally referred to as machine unlearning.
In this talk, we will take a look at sum product networks (SPNs) as our model class of interest and how we can adapt their training such that the resulting SPN allows data removal with strong privacy guarantees.
