The research group Telecooperation (Prof. Mühlhäuser, max(at)tk.tu-darmstadt.de) at Technische Universität Darmstadt fills the following position:

Doctoral Researcher (employed) in the Field of Intelligent Adaptation for Data Processing in the Future Internet

The research group Telecooperation Lab is one of the largest computer science chairs at Technische Universität Darmstadt. In our research area Computer Networks and Distributed Systems, we develop concepts and algorithms for large-scale and software-defined networks. A recent emphasis of our research is to further the Internet from a data transport to a data processing infrastructure (keywords: in network processing, fog computing, edge clouds). Telecooperation Lab is substantially involved in the collaborative research center Multi Mechanism Adaptation for the Future Internet; the posted position will be affiliated with this center. Within the lab, further collaboration opportunities exist, e.g., regarding infrastructures for smart cities and critical infrastructures.

Research in the posted position shall break new ground regarding the problem of continuously mapping sets of distributed computations onto processing topologies and further onto networked resources, where the conditions on all levels are subject to dynamic change, e.g., due to mobility and software-defined resources. This key problem of the Future Internet shall be approached using artificial intelligence, with a focus on machine learning techniques.

The job posting targets graduates in computer science or related subjects who want to pursue a doctorate degree. The contract will initially be limited by the end of the current funding period of the collaborative research center (December 31, 2020), an extension is foreseen. Our lab has a reputation for its extraordinary team spirit and excellent work climate, and regularly qualifies its employees for exceptional academic and industrial careers. Under the supervision of Prof. Mühlhäuser and experienced post-doctoral researchers, you will work closely together with other researchers in an international team. You will present your research results at the best international conferences and in top-ranked scientific journals. In cooperation with the researchers of the collaborative research center, which is unique in Germany, you will gain access to the world’s leading research activities and benefit from lively exchange among international researchers. By supervising theses and research students, and by occasionally contributing research-related guest lectures, you will incidentally gain experience in academic teaching.

In addition to holding a very good degree, you should provide evidence of experience in scientific work and possess outstanding social skills. We expect a basic understanding of computer networks and distributed systems and of machine learning. Very good command of English is indispensable, at least basic command of German is welcome.

Technische Universität Darmstadt actively promotes equal opportunities and thus particularly encourages qualified women to apply. Moreover, disabled persons will be preferentially considered when equally qualified. Please, address your application to Prof. Mühlhäuser in electronic form (email to max(at)tk.tu-darmstadt.de).
