Description:
The Blockseminar offers immersive experience for students to delve into the practical aspects of AI ethics by focusing on an existing collaborative project with Klinikum Bamberg. This project focuses on developing a trustworthy AI system to support nurses and doctors in the Spontaneous Breathing Trials in Intensive Care Unit patients on mechanical ventilation.
The seminar begins with an introductory session on the current ethical issues in AI applications, with also a focus on healthcare challenges (Monday 7th). This is followed by a series of sessions at Klinikum Bamberg (at least Tuesday 8th), interwoven with sessions of discussion and hands-on implementation at UniBamberg.
The primary objectives are threefold:
1. To equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the real-world challenges in AI ethics, especially in the context of a city’s digital transformation;
2. To expose students to the synergies between healthcare systems and AI research, fostering an interdisciplinary approach;
3. To provide tools and resources enabling students to contribute to this cross-disciplinary initiative.
Additionally, the Blockseminar aims to ignite student interest in further engagement with this project, e.g. in the form of Projects or Master theses.
