This seminar deals with gender differences, inequalities and relations in education over the life course, in theoretical as well as in empirical terms. Special attention will be paid to mechanisms that transform perceived differences between girls and boys, women and men into gender inequalities and their change over time in different welfare state regimes and educational systems. In the seminar, we will read and jointly discuss theoretical approaches that offer explanations to these issues as well as recent empirical studies that shed new light on them.
