Wintersemester 2023/24

This is the VC page for my master level course on virtualization, which is the foundation of most things in computer science today, from game console emulation and Java to web applications and cloud computing. Though it is widely used today, early virtualization approaches were already used in the 1960s, e.g. as system virtualization in IBM's 360-series mainframe computers.

In this course, we will discuss virtualization from a systems perspective on all levels – from hardware virtualization (such as Xen and KVM) to high-level-language virtual machines (like the Java JVM). Along the way, we will discover how software and hardware interact and which challenges are presented by virtualizing systems.
