Description: The need for parking spaces will continue to increase in the near future. Studies show that finding a free parking space causes 30% of inner-city traffic. The efficient management of parking spaces has long been a central point in the planning of urban and regional infrastructures.
The aim of ongoing research is to enable real-time prediction of free parking spaces. One approach to make this prediction possible is the integration of special sensors in roads or vehicles.
In this project different topics regarding parking management in smart cities will be covered. How can the parking management of a city be improved? How can illegal parking be addressed? Which additional use cases in parking management exist?
The infrastructure (Parking PIlot sensors) for smart parking spaces is already in place on P+R Bahnhof/Brennerstrasse and P+R Heinrichsdamm in Bamberg. The installation of additional decentralized parking sensors in special locations of interest is planned.
The project takes place in cooperation with the Stadtwerke Bamberg and im-mobility as part of the FutureIOT research network. The language of the project is English.
